The Moritzburg game reserve was rebuilt in the following years and reopened in 1958 on a section of the old zoo. In 2009 a new large enclosure for wolves opened .

In 2018, 143,587 guests visited the game reserve. With 181,000 guests, a record number of visitors was achieved in 2011.

Animal species

More than 30 predominantly native species are kept in the Moritzburg game reserve. The focus of the keeping is the accommodation in natural, species-appropriate quarters. Among other things, red and fallow deer , wolves, lynxes, elks , mouflons , wild boars , roe deer and various fox species are shown ; also raccoons , raccoon dogs , nutrias , otters, brown hares and wild rabbits .

There is an adventure park and forest high ropes course on the grounds of the game reserve . The so-called climbing forest has eight different courses in different levels of difficulty between one and thirteen meters high. Ant nature trail

In 2009, an ant educational trail was opened in the Moritzburg game reserve. Four large nests of mound-building wood ants can be observed. From 2005 to 2014, the Moritzburg game reserve was awarded the Service Quality Germany seal of quality in Saxony by the State Tourism Association of Saxony .
