Wilfried Gruber

Wilfried Gruber (born August 15, 1942 in Überlingen ) is a German political scientist and diplomat . He was the German ambassador to Yugoslavia (1996–1999), Hungary (2000–2003) and Romania (2003–2006).

Life

After graduating from high school in 1961, Gruber studied political science, history and Romance studies in Freiburg, Berlin and Paris. In 1967 he passed the academic examination for teaching at secondary schools. From 1967 to 1969 he studied political science at the Graduate School for International Studies of the University of Denver in Colorado, Denver, where he earned a Master of Arts .

From 1970 to 1972 he did the preparatory service for the higher foreign service . From 1972 to 1976 he worked at the German Embassy in London (United Kingdom) and from 1976 to 1979 at the German Embassy in La Paz (Bolivia). Then it was used in the headquarters in Bonn. From 1983 to 1986 he worked at the German Embassy in Moscow (Soviet Union). After another station in Bonn, he stayed at the RAND Corporation for study purposes in 1989/90 . In 1990 he became head of division in the political department at the Foreign Office. From 1996 to 1999 he was ambassador to Belgrade (Yugoslavia). In 1999/2000 he was ambassador for special use in the Foreign Office. From 2000 to 2003 he worked as ambassador in Budapest (Hungary) and from 2003 to 2006 in Bucharest (Romania).

Gruber is married and has two children.
