Wilfried Rothe
Wilfried Rothe (born August 7, 1937 ; † 2017 ) was a German football player. In the 1960s he played for Chemie Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the highest league in GDR football .
Athletic career
In 1960 the 23-year-old Wilfried Rothe became district champion in the GDR district of Leipzig with the company sports association (BSG) Motor Schkeuditz . This was associated with promotion to the third-class II. GDR league . There Rothe played two seasons with BSG Motor until the team relegated to the district league in 1963.
For the 1964/65 season Rothe joined the upper division chemistry Leipzig. When the previous regular striker Hans-Georg Sannert was out for a long time after the 6th matchday , Rothe came to the top division team for him. Until the winter break, he played all the remaining point games, but was only used sporadically in three league games in the second half of the season. In all ten point games, with one exception, he played on the left attacking side. Rothe scored his first goal for the league team in the last 16 of the GDR Cup in a 3-1 win over ASK Vorwärts Berlin with the 1-0 lead. In the league games, he scored only one goal on the last day of the game. Exceptionally in this game as a right winger, he scored the final score in a 2-0 home win over SC Empor Rostock . At the beginning of the 1965/66 season, Rothe was first used in four of the six preliminary round matches in the Inter-Cup , where he also scored one goal. In the major league he only played on the 7th, 9th and 19th matchdays. Rothe was not involved in any of the games in winning the GDR Cup in 1966.
After his thirteen league games at Chemie Leipzig, Rothe returned at the beginning of the 1966/67 season to BSG Motor Schkeuditz, which was still represented in the district league. Wilfried Rothe never returned to the top soccer leagues.
