Wilfriede Hoffmann , b. Tews (born November 27, 1932 in Rattai , Poland , † January 28, 2010 in Leipzig ) was a track and field athlete from the German Democratic Republic (GDR). At the European Championships in 1962 , she finished fifth in the shot put .

Career

Wilfriede Tews achieved her first placement at GDR championships in 1952 when she finished sixth in the discus throw . In 1953 she was second behind Charlotte Niemann in the shot put with 11.96 m , in the discus throw she placed third behind Ruth Wiederhold and Ruth Uckel with 37.64 m . In the shot put she won three titles in a row from 1954 to 1956, in the discus throw she repeated her third place in 1954, won the title in 1955 and took second place in 1956 behind Irene Stechemesser . For the all-German team , which was allowed to travel to Melbourne for the 1956 Olympic Games , only Johanna Lüttge qualified in Tews' disciplines , who finished second behind Tews in the GDR championships in shot put, all other starting places went to athletes from the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG).

In 1957 Wilfriede Tews was runner-up in both disciplines, Johanna Lüttge won the GDR championships in shot put until 1960, and Doris Müller won the discus throw until 1961 . In 1958 Tews finished third in both disciplines at the championships and could not qualify for the 1958 European Championships in Stockholm. In 1960, Johanna Lüttge won the GDR championships in shot put ahead of Renate Garisch and Wilfriede Hoffmann, who had married in 1959. These three athletes also traveled to Rome for the Olympic Games . Lüttge won silver there, Garisch finished sixth and Hoffmann took eighth place with 15.14 m. In 1961 and 1962 Garisch won the GDR championship title in shot put in front of Hoffmann, while Johanna Huebner, as Johanna Lüttge was now called, was third in 1962. All three shot putters also qualified for the European Championships in Belgrade in 1962 . There Hoffmann finished fifth with 15.75 m.

Wilfriede Hoffmann had a competition weight of 78 kg with a height of 1.68 m. She started for the SC DHfK Leipzig and also completed her sports teacher training at the DHfK.

Records and best performances

In 1955, Wilfriede Tews set four GDR records in the discus throw, from 44.54 m in the first record she increased the record to 48.29 m. She achieved her best performance of 49.55 m in 1957.

In the shot put she was also able to set four GDR records, from 13.33 m in 1954 to 15.01 m in 1956. Her best performance was as Wilfriede Hoffmann in 1962 with 16.51 m.

family

Her son is the Leipzig cabaret artist Meigl Hoffmann .
