Wilhelm Heinse Medal
The Wilhelm Heinse Medal was a German literary prize that was awarded annually from 1978 to 2001.
The medal was awarded by the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz “for essayistic literature in the broadest sense”. The medal , in the form of a Roman coin, is the last sculptural work by the Munich sculptor Toni Stadler . The Academy awards further prizes for science and literature every year, including the Joseph Breitbach Prize and the Leibniz Medal .
The name of the award goes back to the German writer and scholar Wilhelm Heinse .
