August Wilhelm Appuhn (born October 4, 1804 in Gröningen ; † June 6, 1882 in Wernigerode ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

He was born as the son of the organist and teacher Johann Christoph David Appuhn and his wife Marie b. Jaeger was born in Gröningen and attended school in Magdeburg . In 1819 he moved to the cathedral high school in Halberstadt , which he left in 1824 with the Abitur. Then he went to the University of Halle-Wittenberg to study Protestant theology. His university teachers included u. a. August Tholuck .

In 1827 Wilhelm Appuhn became a private tutor with Karl Graf von der Schulenburg in Altenhausen , where he stayed until 1830. During this time he passed his first theological exam on February 12, 1828, followed by the second exam on July 21, 1829.

In 1830 Wilhelm Appuhn became the adjunct of the elderly pastor of Altenhausen, until he took over this pastoral position in 1834, to which Ivenrode also belonged. In 1852 he became consistorial councilor and cathedral preacher at Magdeburg Cathedral . In the consistory there, he was given responsibility for personnel, church visits and the implementation of confirmations. After Appuhn had reached the age of 67, he retired. Appuhn spent his last years in Naumburg (Saale) and Wernigerode, where he died in 1882.

He had Christiane Philippine born in Altenhausen in 1835. Duke married. From this marriage a son emerged who was a councilor in Klein-Gröningen.

Wilhelm Appuhn published a number of sermons and several theological treatises, the content of which represented the idea of ​​a union of the Lutheran and Reformed churches in the Kingdom of Prussia .
