Wilhelm Balters

Wilhelm Balters (born March 14, 1893 in Barmen ; † December 13, 1973 ) was a German dentist.

Vita

He passed his state examination in dentistry in 1920 and qualified as a professor in Bonn in 1926 in dentistry, oral medicine and maxillofacial medicine.

In 1932 he was appointed associate professor and in 1939 he was given the extraordinary professorship. In 1943 he also passed the medical state examination.

He was anxious to turn dentistry into dentistry and became increasingly involved in orthodontics. He also designed his Bionator, a brace-like device. In 1949 he developed the so-called "natural and orthodontic pacifier and jaw former ". The NUK pacifier followed in 1956 . He published around 170 scientific papers.

At the inauguration of the newly built university clinic and polyclinic for oral, dental and jaw diseases on Wilhelmsplatz in Bonn in 1960 by Gustav Korkhaus , his teacher Alfred Kantorowicz was at his side as the guest of honor.

In August 1964 he became seriously ill. He was buried in Diekholzen .
