Wilhelm Bodenbender , Spanish Guillermo Bodenbender (born July 2, 1857 in Meerholz , Grand Duchy of Hesse , † April 20, 1941 in Córdoba , Argentina ) was a German mineralogist , petrograph and stratigraph in Argentina. He was also known as a paleobotanist .

Life

Bodenbender studied geology at the TH Clausthal , the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the Philipps-Universität Marburg . In Göttingen he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. Invited by Ludwig Brackebusch , he went to the National University of Córdoba in 1885 . With the botanist Fritz Kurtz (1854–1920) he explored the Cordilleras from the Bolivian border to Patagonia and the Sierras Pampeanas . His main investigations extended to the mountains of the province of Cordoba and the province of La Rioja . In 1892 he followed Brackebusch as professor of geology and mineralogy at the University of Cordoba. He bequeathed his geological collection to the University of Göttingen .

The first publication on Argentina (1889) was followed by forty more by 1936. “Bodenbender the Tireless” translated eleven geological and palaeontological works from German into Spanish. He was buried in Cordoba.

Gymnocalycium bodenbenderianum is named in his honor. The naming of the mineral soil benderite after him did not prevail. But he was a pioneer in researching Argentine minerals, for example borates .

In Marburg he was accepted on March 5, 1876 in the pharmaceutical and scientific association "Pharmacia" . He left him on February 22, 1879 and renounced the same day at the Corps Guestphalia Marburg . He was reciprocated and inactivated , but resigned on June 4, 1880. On March 1, 1895 he received the Corpsschleife from Guestphalia Marburg. He laid her down on August 2, 1920.
