Wilhelm Eichler from Eichkron
Wilhelm Freiherr Eichler von Eichkron (* as Karl Wilhelm Eichler on December 10, 1818 in Kötzschenbroda ; † December 23, 1892 in Vienna ) was a German-Austrian railway engineer and entrepreneur. He was ennobled by the Austrian emperor for his services.
Live and act
Born on the Anger of the Saxon Kötzschenbroda ( Altkötzschenbroda 44 ) in the father's and grandfather's estate, Eichler studied at the Dresden Polytechnic after attending school . From 1836 he worked on the construction of the new Leipzig-Dresden railway , where he was responsible for a construction phase.
In 1839 Eichler went to Austria, where he played a key role in the development of the local railway system over the next few decades. So he managed the operation of the Vienna-Liesing line until 1841 , then the operation of the entire line of the Vienna-Gloggnitz railway . Eichler was temporarily responsible for the Mürzzuschlag-Laibach route of the Southern State Railway .
From 1848 to 1854 he was involved in the construction of the Semmering Railway as an independent contractor . From 1855 Eichler received management duties in the operations service of the Austrian State Railroad Company , from 1864 to 1885 he was General Inspector of the Kaiser-Ferdinand-Nordbahn , whose overall management Eichler took over over time.
The Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I awarded Eichler the Order of the Iron Crown III in 1865 for his services . Class with which the elevation to the hereditary Austrian knighthood was connected. Eichler chose the title "von Eichkron" for this. Franz Joseph I raised Eichler von Eichkron, at his request, to the hereditary Austrian baron with a diploma from September 10, 1878 .
Freiherr Eichler von Eichkron died in his apartment in the fourth district of Vienna, Wieden , Heugasse 4 (since 1911: Prinz-Eugen-Straße 4).
In 1991, a street in the Kötzschenbroda district of Eichler's hometown Radebeul was named after his birth name.
