Wilhelm Franke (politician)

Wilhelm Franke (born November 23, 1893 in Frankfurt am Main ; † December 9, 1959 in Kaiserslautern ) was a German politician ( CDU , from 1951 SPD ).

Life

After attending primary school, Franke completed an electrician apprenticeship in Frankfurt am Main. He took part in the First World War as a soldier and then worked as an electrician.

Franke was already active in local politics from 1926 to 1933 and was close to the Social Democrats during this time. In 1945 he joined the Christian Democratic Party (CDP), which later became the state association of the CDU Rhineland-Palatinate . From 1946 he was a member of the district council of the Kaiserslautern district and a member of the Kaiserslautern city council. From 1946 to 1958 he held the positions of councilor and mayor (deputy mayor) of the city of Kaiserslautern.

Franke was a member of the Advisory State Assembly from 1946 to 1947 and was involved in drafting the constitution for Rhineland-Palatinate in this body . After the founding of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , he was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament in the first state parliament election in May 1947 , to which he was a member until 1951. In parliament he was a member of the Refugee Committee, the Food and Supply Committee, the Borderland Committee and the Social Policy Committee. On April 26, 1951, just before the end of the first legislative period, he left the CDU and joined the SPD.
