Wilhelm G. Jacobs

Wilhelm G. Jacobs (born April 2, 1935 in Troisdorf ) is a German philosopher. His research focus is the philosophy of German idealism . He is co-editor of the historical-critical Schelling edition, which has been published since 1976 .

After graduating from high school in Siegburg in 1955 , Jacobs studied philosophy , German and theology in Bonn , Frankfurt am Main , Freiburg im Breisgau and Munich . In 1964 he did his doctorate with Reinhard Lauth in Munich with the thesis Trieb als Morethliches Phenomenon. An investigation into the foundations of philosophy according to Kant and Fichte .

In 1968 he joined the Schelling Commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .

In 1971 he was given a teaching position at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he completed his habilitation in 1984 with a thesis on the philosophy of Friedrich Schelling and was appointed professor there in 1994.

Jacobs co-founded the Working Group on Philosophical Editions of the German Society for Philosophy in 1973 and has been a member of its governing committee since it was founded. He was a co-founder in 1986, then secretary and president, and is now a member of the advisory board of the International Schelling Society . In 2003 Jacobs co-founded the German-Polish Society for Philosophy and was its president until 2009. He is an honorary member of the German Society for Philosophy and the Japanese Schelling Society .
