Hans Michael Baumgartner

Hans Michael Baumgartner (born April 5, 1933 in Munich ; † May 11, 1999 in Berg ) was a German football player and philosopher .

Life

Baumgartner studied philosophy , psychology , theology and mathematics at the universities of Munich, Frankfurt and Göttingen from 1952 to 1961 , most recently as a scholarship holder of the Cusanuswerk . After receiving his doctorate in 1961 with Reinhard Lauth in Munich, he was Hermann Krings' research assistant at the Philosophical Seminar of the Saarland University in Saarbrücken until 1968 . His habilitation in philosophy took place in 1971 at the University of Munich on a historical theoretical topic. There he was a lecturer in philosophy until 1976. In 1976 he received the position of professor of philosophy at the University of Giessen and worked in parallel with Odo Marquard in the “transcendental double pass”.

Baumgartner had held a chair for philosophy at the University of Bonn since 1985 .

His philosophical position is in the critical tradition of Immanuel Kant and stands against skepticism .

Act

In 1971 Baumgartner became a member of the Schelling Commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and co-editor of the historically critical Schelling edition. He had been head of the Philosophy Section in the Görres Society since 1978 and was first President of the International Schelling Society from 1986 to 1992. From 1989 to 1999 Baumgartner worked as editor for the Philosophical Yearbook .

During his student years, Baumgartner was a football player in the league , at the time the top division, at 1860 Munich in the 1952/53 season (20 appearances, 3 goals), 1955/56 at Eintracht Frankfurt and at Hannover 96 from 1956 to 1958 (27 appearances , 11 goals).
