Wilhelm Hack (doctor)
Wilhelm Hack (born July 19, 1851 in Karlsruhe , † April 23, 1887 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German medic .
Life
Wilhelm Hack was the son of a ministerial advisor to the Grand Duke of Baden . He was orphaned at an early age and was taken into the family of a family friend. After attending high school, he moved to Heidelberg University at the age of 18 and studied medicine.
During the Franco-Prussian War , he interrupted his studies and helped in a hospital. In 1874 Hack passed his state examination and then went to Vienna to the clinics of Theodor Billroth and Ferdinand von Hebra , of Karl Stoerk and Leopold Schrötter von Kristelli . In Darmstadt he was assistant to Wilhelm Jäger and then in Heidelberg to Gustav Simon . After Simon's death in 1876, Wilhelm Hack went to Freiburg im Breisgau to see the surgeon Hermann Maas .
After studying in Paris and London, Hack turned completely to rhinology from 1880 onwards.
Hack was married to Henriette, née Berner, who wrote poetry in her free time. Their son Friedrich Wilhelm Hack emerged from the marriage. Wilhelm Hack died on April 23, 1887, shortly before the birth of his son, of a heart attack (embolism) in Freiburg.
