Wilhelm Hemmes

Wilhelm Hemmes (born March 14, 1840 in Gau-Algesheim , Rhineland-Palatinate, † September 11, 1925 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German teacher for the deaf and dumb .

Life

After studying Catholic theology, Hemmes worked as a teacher from 1863 and from 1883 to 1914 as director of the teaching institute for the deaf and dumb and teachers of the deaf and dumb in Bensheim . On the occasion of his retirement in 1914, he was awarded the title of Privy School Councilor. From 1912 to 1919 he was a city councilor in Bensheim. As early as 1909, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, he was awarded the crown of the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Merit Philip the Magnanimous and was made an honorary citizen of the city of Bensheim.

Wilhelm Hemmes was with Magdalena geb. Gölz married and the father of the long-time center deputy in the People's State of Hesse Elisabeth Hattemer (1870-1948), the Catholic clergy Emanuel Hemmes (* 1872) and Nikolaus Hemmes (* 1873) as well as the Bensheim notary Wilhelm Hemmes (* 1876).
