Wilhelm Hugo Ferdinand von Schulz

Wilhelm Hugo Ferdinand von Schulz (born June 19, 1811 in Berlin , † November 14, 1891 in Minden ) was a royal Prussian lieutenant general and most recently head of the engineer and pioneer corps . On 16 June 1871 he was ennobled .

origin

His parents were Friedrich Wilhelm Schulz (* February 9, 1784; † October 15, 1869) and his wife Dorothea Frederike Wagner († July 6, 1815). His father was a Prussian colonel and, most recently, an engineer officer from the Wesel fortress square .

Life

From 1825 he went to the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cologne and after graduating on August 1, 1828, he joined the 4th pioneer department. From there he was posted to the United Artillery and Engineering School on October 1, 1829 . He was appointed Portepeefähnrich on December 22, 1829 December 26, 1831 Seconde Lieutenant in the 3rd engineering inspection aggregated , on 7 January 1832 he was in the eighth pioneering department and on 7 November 1832 in the 7th Pioneer Department transferred and assigned there on September 10, 1833. On January 19, 1844, he was promoted to adjutant of the 5th Fortress Inspectorate and on March 28, 1844 to Premier-Lieutenant. He came on April 20, 1847 to the reserve engineer company of the fortress Luxembourg , where he became captain and commander of the 2nd company of the 8th engineer division on August 29, 1848. During the Baden Revolution of 1849 he fought in the battles near Philippsburg, Waghäusel , Durchlach and Kuppenheim.

Subsequently, on December 2, 1852, he was transferred to the Minden fortress as commander of the 4th engineer division and on March 20, 1856 as an engineer officer . There he was appointed major on April 30, 1857, and on February 27, 1858, he was transferred to Luxembourg as director of genius. On February 8, 1861, he came from Luxembourg as director of genius to Mainz fortress , where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on October 18, 1861. On January 18, 1863 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class with ribbon , on September 22, 1863 he was appointed Colonel and on October 28, 1863 he was transferred to the 5th fortress inspection as an inspector. On January 13, 1866, he came to the 2nd Pioneer Inspection as an inspector. During the mobilization for the German War , he became an engineer officer of the mobile VI on May 9, 1866. Army corps and took part in the battle of Königgrätz . After the war, on September 8, 1866, he was again inspector of the 2nd Pioneer Inspection.

On September 20, 1866, he received the Order of the Crown, 2nd Class with Swords, for his achievement . In addition, on December 31, 1866, he was promoted to major general with a patent on October 30, 1866. On October 17, 1867, he became inspector of the 2nd Engineer Inspection and on November 9, 1867, as President of the Examination Commission for Captains and Premier-Lieutenant of the Engineering corps. On January 23, 1870, he was then awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves. During the mobilization for the Franco-Prussian War , on July 18, 1870, he was appointed commander of the engineers and pioneers at the High Command of the 3rd Army. During the war he fought near Weißenburg , Wörth and Sedan , where he earned the Iron Cross 2nd class . He was also at the sieges of Strasbourg and Paris . On November 12, 1870, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Bavarian Military Merit Order . On January 18, 1871, he received the Iron Cross 1st Class and on January 23, 1871, the Grand Cross of the Württemberg Order of Frederick with Swords .

Subsequently, on April 8, 1871, he was again inspector in the 2nd engineer inspection. On June 16, 1871, he received the Prussian nobility and on August 18, 1871, he was promoted to lieutenant general. He was also awarded the Saxon Order of Albrecht on October 10, 1871 . On January 11, 1873, he received the business of the chief of the engineer and pioneer corps, on January 18, 1873, the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, before he was put up for retirement on March 2, 1873 . On October 18, 1878, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 1st class with oak leaves and swords on the ring. He died in Minden on November 14, 1891.

He married Marie Sophie Therese Schönermark on July 4, 1840 in Erfurt (* September 4, 1820 - June 23, 1901), a daughter of Colonel Johann Karl Schönermark . The marriage remained childless.
