Wilhelm Kopfer

Wilhelm Kopfer (born March 28, 1813 in Liebenscheid ; † July 10, 1887 in Mannheim ) was an entrepreneur and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Kopfer had been involved in commercial life since 1827 and with little interruption in the tobacco industry. In 1839 he founded the Wilhelm Kopfer cigar factory in Giessen . In 1847 he moved from Gießen to Mannheim and was a member of the citizens' committee from the mid-1950s to 1870. Then he was a member of the local council from 1870 to 1875. In 1872 he participated in the establishment of the Rheinau chemical factory . He was married to Auguste Gail (1821–1901).

From 1871 on he was Vice President and from 1876 to 1880 President of the Chamber of Commerce and was also appointed to the German Handelsstag. From 1863 to 1866 and from 1877 to 1884 he was elected to the Baden Second Chamber for the city of Mannheim . Between 1878 and 1886 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Baden 11 (Mannheim, Schwetzingen , Weinheim ) and the German People's Party . In October 1886 Kopfer resigned from the Reichstag.

Kopfer's grave in Mannheim

After his death he was buried in the Mannheim main cemetery. The city of Mannheim maintains his grave as an honor grave . There is an epitaph on a narrow console cornice made of yellow sandstone. Between the consoles are volutes and shell ornaments. The black writing plate has a framing of the ears, above it a gable with a frieze of cut teeth. In the complex you will also find four granite stones and two handle urns with flame attachments.
