Wilhelm Lührs (politician)

Wilhelm Lührs (born January 30, 1885 in Third Geest ; † July 14, 1974 in Stubben ) was a German farmer and politician ( DNVP , NSDAP ).

Lührs was the son of a farmer and attended the agricultural winter schools in Stade and Visselhövede and the agricultural college in Braunschweig. From 1905 to 1909 he did military service. Afterwards he was administrator on agricultural goods in Hanover, Silesia, Saxony and Pomerania. From 1914 to 1917 he did military service and was seriously wounded. From 1917 to 1924 he was estate inspector in Holstein before he leased a farm in Ebersdorf, Bremervörde district. He was married and had three children.

In 1919 he became a member of the DNVP . On May 1, 1928, he joined the NSDAP and was the local group leader in Ebersdorf until 1932. In 1929 he became a speaker and honorary district leader in Bremervörde. He was a member of the district council and the district federal government. In 1932 he attended the Reichsfuhrer School in Munich. In June 1932 he became a member of the provincial parliament of the province of Hanover , replacing Georg Weidenhöfer . After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he was from July 1933 to June 1934 local farmers' leaders and from June 1934 to 1945 Mayor of Bremervörde .

He was interned on May 3, 1945. On November 25, 1947, the Benefeld-Bomlitz Chamber sentenced him to one year in prison. When he was released from the Fallingbostel internment camp on December 7, 1947, the sentence was deemed to have been served. In 1949 he was classified as a follower as part of the denazification process . Since his release he lived on his nephew's farm.
