Wilhelm Lovius (* approx. 1607 in Raeren ; † April 3, 1685 in Cologne ) was a theologian , university professor and from 1683 to 1685 rector of the old University of Cologne .

Life

He studied theology and worked from 1645 as a professor at the Cologne Bursa Montana of the artist faculty . At the same time he took up the higher studies of theology and received his doctorate in 1650 as a licentiate in theology. On December 5, 1654 he received canonical and preamble of 3rd grace to St. Andrew as a professor , where he also became vicar . In 1655 he was Quaestor and Subregens of the Montana, in the same year he received a canonical at Cologne Cathedral . In 1657 he became dean of the artist faculty and from 1658 onwards he was named Regens der Montana. On March 24, 1683 he was elected rector of the University of Cologne .

Lovius Foundation

Shortly before his death, on March 22, 1685, he donated a fortune of 7,124 Reichstalers and 11 Albus . This should enable the next needy blood relatives of the founder, insofar as they are Catholic , a high school education and / or study of philosophy , theology or law .

The Lovius Foundation still exists today and is one of 87 family foundations in the Cologne grammar school and foundation fund .
