20th century
The rector held office for one academic year, one re-election was possible, the respective predecessor acted as prorector , if this was also prevented, the respective predecessor represented the rector ( principle of seniority ). It was different in the Nazi era , where the university's own choice was not applicable. This mode was changed with the new university constitution, which placed the university management under the rectorate with up to four vice rectors elected on the proposal of the rector and the chancellor and which came into force under rector Peter Hanau.
