Wilhelm Ludwig Conrad Listemann

Wilhelm Ludwig Conrad Listemann (born September 3, 1832 in Magdeburg ; † May 2, 1893 there ) was a politician in the Magdeburg region and an honorary citizen of the city.

Life

Listemann was born as the son of the Magdeburg sugar manufacturer and city councilor Friedrich Conrad Listemann . After completing his legal training, Listemann became a member of Magdeburg's magistrate for a short time in 1866 . In May of this year, however, he took over the role of General Director of the Magdeburg life insurance company .

In 1867 Listemann was one of the founders of the National Liberal Party in Magdeburg. From February 1867 he was a member of the city ​​council , which he chaired in early 1869. He held this office for 24 years until his death in 1893.

From 1875 Listemann was a member of the provincial parliament of the Prussian province of Saxony for the city of Magdeburg .

Listemann was also chairman of the Magdeburg Monument Association . In this function he was responsible for the unveiling of the Luther memorial in front of the St. John's Church in Magdeburg on November 10, 1886 .

Honors

On the occasion of his 25th anniversary as a city councilor, he was made honorary citizen of the city of Magdeburg in 1892 .

The street in Magdeburg, named in his honor as Listemannstrasse , reminds of his work .
