Wilhelm Martens (politician)

Wilhelm Martens (born November 5, 1929 in Celle ; † December 31, 2008 in Tosterglope ) was a German politician (CDU). He was a district administrator in the Lüneburg district and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament.

Life

Martens attended elementary school in Tosterglope and then the grammar school in Marienau, where he passed the Abitur in 1950. He then did a practical agricultural apprenticeship in Dohnsen for two years and studied two semesters of agriculture at the University of Göttingen and four semesters at the University of Bonn . Martens then completed his doctorate at the Institute for Agricultural Management in Bonn. After completing his doctorate, he worked in his parents' company, which he took over in 1965. He joined the CDU in 1959 and became a member of the board of the Saatbau-Genossenschaft Dahlenburg. Martens was also a member of the supervisory board of Landeskrankenhilfe Lüneburg.

Martens was from 1961 to 1974 councilor of the municipality of Tosterglope and from 1972 a member of the district council. In 1974 he was elected district administrator of the Lüneburg district and remained so until 1991. From June 21, 1982 to June 20, 1994 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament, to which he was a member for the 10th to 12th electoral term. From 1990 to 1994 he was chairman of the Committee on Federal and European Affairs. After his retirement from politics in 1994 he was awarded the Lower Saxony Cross of Merit, 1st Class . He was also appointed honorary district administrator of the Lüneburg district.
