Wilhelm Mechov (medic)

Wilhelm Mechov (also: Wilhelm Mechow and Guilielmus Mechovius and Wilhelm Mechovius ; * December 26, 1654 in Celle ; † July 22, 1712 in Clausthal or Zellerfeld ) was a German mountain medic. His correspondence with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz is part of the UNESCO World Document Heritage .

Life

Wilhelm Mechov, baptized in Celle on January 5, 1655, studied at the University of Helmstedt from 1773 . There he worked temporarily as a respondent .

From 1679 Mechov studied at the University of Leiden .

From 1681 until the year of his death he worked as a mountain medic in Clausthal and Zellerfeld. For example, in 1711 he assisted the mint master and local politician Rudolf Bornemann in his last weeks.

In 1689 Mechov married Anna Elisabeth Jordan from Clausthal.
