Wilhelm Obendiek

Wilhelm Obendiek (born May 3, 1885 in Lage (Lippe) , † February 13, 1955 in Schierke ) was a German politician (SPD, KPD, SED).

Life

The son of a railroad worker attended elementary school and learned the craft of a cigar maker. Obendiek joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1910 and was chairman of the trade union cartel in Pasewalk , where he lived and worked until 1919. Then he moved to Szczecin , where he earned his living as an employee.

During the First World War he switched to the USPD . In 1921 he was a delegate at the split party conference of the USPD. While many of his party comrades returned to the SPD, Obendiek joined the left wing of the USPD with the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). In 1921 he was a member of the central committee of the KPD and was political director of the Pomerania district from 1924 to 1925 .

Wilhelm Obendiek was a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Pomerania from 1919 to 1925 . From 1924 to 1928 Obendiek belonged to the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic for two legislative periods . In May 1924 Obendiek was elected to the Reichstag as a candidate of the KPD for constituency 6 (Pomerania). After his mandate was confirmed in the elections in December 1924 , Obendiek remained a member of the Reichstag until May 1928. From 1928 to 1932 Obendiek was a member of the Prussian state parliament . There he first belonged to the KPD parliamentary group, before he joined their parliamentary group after his return to the SPD in 1929.

In the era of National Socialism , he was briefly imprisoned 1,933th After his release, he continued his cigar business in Pomerania, which he had opened before 1933. After the end of the war he rejoined the SPD and was a member of the SED from April 1946 after the forced unification of the SPD and KPD . From 1947 to 1948 he was community leader and then until 1952 mayor in Schierke in the Harz region . He worked closely with the Ministry for State Security and was responsible for members of the government and President Wilhelm Pieck when they were on vacation in Schierke.

Obendiek was married twice (1910 and 1946).
