Wilhelm Passavant

Wilhelm Passavant (born April 7, 1886 in Michelbach ; † March 31, 1959 there ) was a German entrepreneur .

Life

Wilhelm Passavant was the son of the entrepreneur Adolph Passavant (1841–1926) and Eckhard (1854–1929), born by his wife Johanna Elisabeth. On May 29, 1917, he married Charlotte Susanne Hermine, nee Schack (born March 11, 1892 in Wiesbaden) in Wiesbaden.

He attended secondary school in Wiesbaden and studied engineering in Darmstadt and Clausthal until 1908 . He participated in the First World War before taking over the management of his father's company, Michelbacher Hütte , in 1917 , which he joined in 1910. Under him, the company grew rapidly and specialized in wastewater technology . His son Udo Passavant (* 1921) sold the company to the ACO Group and Bilfinger & Berger in 2000 .

Passavant belonged to the DVP during the Weimar Republic . From 1930 to 1933 he was a member of the Nassau municipal parliament for the DVP and the constituency of Obertaunuskreis , where he was the economic policy spokesman for his parliamentary group. In the elections to the municipal parliament on March 12, 1933, he received no mandate. In 1928 he ran as a substitute in the elections to the Prussian state parliament . He was also a long-time member of the Michelbach municipal council.

Awards

He was the bearer of the ring of honor of the German Standards Committee. In 1950 he became an honorary senator of the TH Stuttgart and in 1952 an honorary doctorate from the TH Darmstadt. In 1956 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit. In the following year he became an honorary citizen of Michelbach. Wilhelm-Passavant-Strasse in Aarbergen is named after him.
