history

In 1920 a hole in the ground that contained 15 types of marble was discovered at the present location . In 1929 the Marble Lime Company was founded, the purpose of which was to mine the marble in open-cast mining . It was initially called Marmerhol ( Afrikaans for "marble hole") and was renamed the similar sounding Marble Hall .

In 1994, Marble Hall came to Mpumalanga Province , but in 2006 it was added to Limpopo Province along with surrounding towns.

Economy and Transport

Marble Hall continues to be mined. The calcitic - dolomitic carbonate rock has white and light gray tones. Due to the presence of minerals from the serpentine group , there may be lively colors, especially sporadic dark green bands. The snow-white grades are similar to Parian and Pentelic marble . They were used in representative buildings in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.

The city is also an agricultural center. Artificial irrigation is sometimes used in the area . Among other things, wheat, cotton and citrus fruits are grown.

The National Route 11 leads approximately in a northwest-southeast direction through the city and connects Mokopane with Groblersdal. The R573 leads southwest to Siyabuswa . Marble Hall Airport ( ICAO code FAMI) is south of the city . The city is the end of a freight railway line that leads to the Pienaarsrivier station to the west, north of Pretoria .
