Wilhelm Pfähler

Wilhelm Pfähler (born October 4, 1947 in Unterjettingen ) is a German economist and former professor of economics (VWL) at the University of Hamburg . He was Professor of Economic Policy and Industrial Economics at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Hamburg.

Life

Wilhelm Pfähler received his doctorate in 1976 from the Georg-August University in Göttingen . He chose Normative Theory of Fiscal Taxation as the topic of his dissertation . A methodological and theoretical contribution to the integration of normative taxation theory into welfare theory .

He taught and researched at the Universities of Göttingen, Heidelberg , WHU in Koblenz / Vallendar and as a visiting professor at the Universities of Kiel , Heidelberg and Georgetown University , Washington, DC in the United States of America. From 1987 to 1991 Wilhelm Pfähler was dean and vice dean of the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Koblenz / Vallendar.

Since 1992 Wilhelm Pfähler has held the chair for economic policy and industrial economics in the economics department of the University of Hamburg.

He has been retired since May 1, 2010.

Wilhelm Pfähler is one of 172 economics professors who signed the economists' open letter on the euro crisis in July 2012 .

Research priorities

Wilhelm Pfähler's research focus in the field of economic policy was general economic policy, regional and environmental policy , science and innovation policy, education and research as an economic and location factor, as well as public utilities, deregulation and competition. In the field of industrial economics, he researched corporate policy and corporate finance as well as corporate strategies in competition.
