Wilhelm Reitz

Wilhelm Reitz (born September 23, 1904 in Heuchelheim , † July 25, 1980 in Wetzlar ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending elementary school and the vocational school, Reitz completed an apprenticeship as a bookbinder from 1918 to 1921, which he completed with a journeyman's examination. He then continued his education at adult education centers , especially in Marburg , until 1924 . He joined the trade union in 1919 and had been a functionary of the Association of Bookbinders and Paper Workers in Germany since 1923.

In 1933 Reitz was taken into " protective custody " for a few weeks for political reasons . In 1935 he passed the master craftsman's examination in the cardboard trade and then worked as the head of a cardboard department.

In 1944/45 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier . At the end of the war he was taken prisoner by the French.

Since 1945 he was a member of the works council and in 1948 he became chairman of the IG Chemie, Papier, Keramik in Gießen .

Political party

Reitz joined the SPD in 1923. Since 1947 he was chairman of the local association, since 1950 of the district association and since 1951 of the subdistrict of the Social Democrats in Wetzlar. In addition, since 1952 he was a member of the state committee of the SPD Hessen .

MP

Reitz was a city ​​councilor in Wetzlar from 1946 to 1952 and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there from 1949 to 1952. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1953 to 1969. In parliament he represented the constituency of Wetzlar.

Public offices

Reitz had been an honorary city councilor (school department) at the city administration of Wetzlar since 1952.
