Wilhelm Schabel (born January 17, 1973 in Codlea (Zeiden) , Transylvania , Romania ) is a German university professor for process engineering .

Career

Schabel passed his diploma in process engineering in 1998. In 2004 he received his doctorate with distinction and in 2005 was awarded the CARL-FREUDENBERG Prize from the Rectorate of the University of Karlsruhe (TH). In 2007 his scientific work on film drying was honored with the renowned ARNOLD EUCKEN Prize and in 2008 with an international young talent award, the LE: SCRIVEN Award in Los Angeles. After less than two years in the industry in the field of coating technology at Lonza-Folien in Basel, Schabel was appointed to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in 2009, where he has headed the Thin Film Technology working group as a professor at the Institute for Thermal Process Engineering since 2009 . The professorship was newly established as part of the KIT future concept and financed for several years by the companies BASF , BAYER and ROCHE . In 2012 Schabel received an honorary doctorate (Dr. h. C.) From the Technical University of Gheorghe Asachi Iasi . In 2019 Schabel received the Venia Legendi. In 2020 he was named an “Edwards Fellow” by the renowned Cambridge University and teaches as a visiting professor at the “ Edwards Center for Soft Matters”, which is closely associated with chemical engineering there.
