In 1824, Schatz accepted a call as a teacher at the convent school of the monastery of Our Dear Women in Magdeburg , where he taught until his transfer in 1834. He then became a teacher at his own training facility, the cathedral grammar school in Halberstadt. In 1845 he was appointed professor there . Schatz was an enthusiastic teacher who did not give up teaching despite severe gout and the help needed in everyday life.

Trivia

In 1840 Schatz was able to convict a writer Bokelmann of plagiarism and was then sued by him, with the help of the lawyer Kieselbach, for insulting. In this context, a caricature defending treasure was created by the cartoonist Wenig, which bore the following signature:

Anyone who has smeared himself with ink
and used
someone else's property, is thick-skinned, but quite gentle,
No Kieselbach can clean him.
