Wilhelm Schelb

Wilhelm Schelb (born September 25, 1888 in Krozingen , † October 14, 1957 in Karlsruhe ) was a German lawyer . He was a judge at the Federal Court of Justice .

In 1906 Schelb, the son of a general practitioner, graduated from the Berthold Gymnasium in Freiburg . In the following winter semester, he began studying law at the University of Freiburg . During his studies, he was at the University of Freiburg with that of Richard Schmidt supervised legal history work "state administration and self-government, state administration of justice and special jurisdiction in the city-state under the Bologna trained Democracy" Dr. iur. PhD. In March 1911, Schelb passed his first state examination in law in Freiburg. He then worked as a trainee lawyer at the Freiburg im Breisgau district court , but was unable to complete his legal preparatory service as planned because he was called up as a soldier for the First World War . He was only able to take his second state examination in November 1917. In 1920 Schelb became a public prosecutor. In 1923 he moved to the bench and initially worked as a district judge, later as a district judge at the Karlsruhe district court . In 1928 he became a senior councilor in the Baden Ministry of Justice. Further political advancement was Schelb, who was close to the center , but was not possible under the later rule of the National Socialists. 1935 was removed from the ministry and transferred as a judge to the Karlsruhe Higher Regional Court .

After the end of the war, Schelb, who had had ties to Reinhold Frank and his resistance group, was classified as unencumbered and sworn in as district court director in Karlsruhe on August 29, 1945. In December 1945 he moved to the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court as President of the Senate . On January 1, 1950, he returned to the Karlsruhe Regional Court as President, but stayed there again only for a short time. At the end of 1950 he was elected judge at the Federal Court of Justice , where he became the first chairman of the III. Civil Senate . For health reasons, however, he left at his own request in April 1951 and was again President of the Karlsruhe Regional Court until he retired on September 30, 1953. After a short, serious illness, Wilhelm Schelb died on October 14, 1957 in Karlsruhe.
