Wilhelm Schiegl
Wilhelm Schiegl (born May 9, 1866 in Vienna ; † May 23, 1936 there ) was an Austrian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (SdP).
Life
Schiegl was the son of an Ask agent born and learned after visiting the folk and the public school the profession of typographer . He was a member of the board of directors of the book printers 'board of directors and was one of the leaders of the book printers' strike in 1891. In 1892 he co-founded the People's Society for Justice for the 7th District , became its first chairman and, in 1893, participated in the creation of a uniform printing tariff .
From 1893 to 1896 Schiegl was chairman of the book printer assistant committee and finally became an official of the association of book printers and type foundries in Austria. He was briefly imprisoned in 1900 because of a speech at a meeting.
From 1911 to 1918 he was a member of the Austrian Reichsrat , where he specialized in financial and budgetary issues and applied for the tax and fee exemption applicable to Emperor Franz Joseph I and his family to be repealed . As a result, he was from 1919 to 1930 as a member of the National Council and leading social democratic representative in the finance committee.
After his death Schiegl was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 71B, Row 16, No. 9).
