Wilhelm Schodde

Wilhelm Schodde (born August 27, 1883 in Altona , † February 1951 in Lübeck ) was a German painter.

Life

Schodde was initially a student at the Lübeck art school of Willibald Leo von Lütgendorff-Leinburg . He then studied at the Kassel Academy of Arts until 1906 . He settled in Lübeck as a painter and mainly painted northern German views, but also portraits. For the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim , he made a copy of Hans Kemmer's paintings for the mountain driver altar in the Marienkirche in Lübeck . His views of Lübeck captured the image of the city before the destruction of the air raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 and are therefore of documentary value for the history of Lübeck's urban construction. The paintings by Schoddes in the Lübeck Behnhaus collection were acquired in the years 1937–1944 after the Lübeck museum director Carl Georg Heise was dismissed (late 1933). His pictures were removed from the presentation of the Behnhaus collections by the mid-1970s and were no longer listed in the 1976 selection catalog. The background was also an increased concentration on corresponding Lubicensien by Gotthardt Kuehl , Ulrich Hübner and his Lübeck pupil Erich Dummer as one of the main collections of the Behnhaus.
