Wilhelm Sievers (Bishop)

Wilhelm Sievers (born April 5, 1931 in Schönkirchen near Kiel ) is emeritus bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg .

Live and act

After studying theology in Kiel and Heidelberg , Wilhelm Sievers took up an additional study of law in Bonn . Sievers received his doctorate as Dr. jur.

In 1958 Sievers was ordained pastor and in the same year took over the position of parish pastor in Kiel. As early as 1960 he exchanged them for the job of a brother pastor in Rickling near Neumünster in Holstein . As a pastor of brothers, he was responsible for the training of deacons at the Schleswig-Holstein Brethren House in Rickling. In addition, he was in charge of a parish in Ev.-Luth. Parish of Rickling and was active in pastoral care in the institutions of the State Association for Inner Mission in Rickling. His successor in Rickling was Pastor Leberecht le Coutre from Krusendorf in 1967 .

From 1966 to 1971 Sievers was pastor in Kronshagen near Kiel and from 1971 to 1985 he held the office of pastor and provost in Kappeln (church district fishing). Here he earned the nickname Propst Zack-Zack .

In 1985 Wilhelm Sievers was elected and introduced as the successor to Hans-Heinrich Harms as bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg . He held this office until 1998 and has since retired in Preetz in Holstein .

His successor in the Oldenburg episcopate was Peter Krug , who retired in September 2008.
