Wilhelm Solisch

Wilhelm ("Willi") Solisch (born May 6, 1910 in Stettin ; † December 7, 1988 ) was a German politician ( SED ). From 1956 to 1960 he was Lord Mayor of the Hanseatic City of Rostock .

Life

Solisch, the son of a worker, learned to be a waiter after attending elementary school and went to sea for several years. During the Second World War he did military service in the Wehrmacht and was taken prisoner by the Soviets .

After returning to Germany in the Soviet zone of occupation , he became a member of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and a political employee of the SED state leadership in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . Later he acted as 2nd or 1st secretary of the SED district leadership in Wismar. From January 1956 to July 1960 he held the office of Lord Mayor of Rostock (successor to the late Bruno Schmidt). Rostock's overseas port was created during his tenure . On September 8, 1959, he signed a friendship treaty between Rostock and the Finnish city of Turku in Rostock . From autumn 1960 he was secretary of the Rostock District Chamber of Crafts (successor to Karl Massel). Until he left the work process, he worked as a manager in the field of maritime transport and port management. Solisch died at the age of 78.
