Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Treunert (born January 27, 1797 in Jena ; died July 1, 1860 there ) was a German poet .

life and work

Born as the child of an unknown student and a student attendant, Treunert was able to attend the Jena citizen school at the age of ten thanks to the wealthy stepfather, the book printer owner Joch. He left the grammar school in Hildburghausen without a degree and began an apprenticeship in printing with his stepfather back in Jena. As a volunteer in the 1st Weimar contingent, Treunert took part in the military campaign against Napoleon Bonaparte in 1815 . In 1828 he was co-founder of the Jena men's choir. His patron, the publisher Friedrich Johannes Frommann , found him the job of council sergeant in 1845. He gave this up in 1859 for health reasons.

Since his youth he has written poems, occasional verses for the New Year, the birthdays of the city fathers, table and drinking songs as well as hymns of praise for various anniversaries (foundation festivals of the citizens' association, warrior festival in Kahla 1845, Grand Duke Karl August von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach (1757-1828) , Schiller celebration 1859).

Between 1836 and 1862 his works were published in the trilogy Mein Gärtchen an der Saale , the last one by his son-in-law Heinrich August Grönert. Volumes 2 and 3 were published by Frommann. After a much-noticed lecture on Treunert, the Kunitz pastor Ernst Böhme published a volume of poetry in 1892. His grave is still preserved today in the Johannisfriedhof .
