Wilhelm Winterstein

Wilhelm Winterstein (born November 28, 1930 in Munich ) is a German private banker and patron . He was Speaker of the Board and Chairman of the Shareholders Committee of the private bank Merck Finck & Co .

Life

Wilhelm Winterstein is a nephew of August von Finck senior . His mother Elisabeth is the third child of Wilhelm von Finck and Marie, geb. Fäustle. His father is the art collector Alfred Winterstein. He was born on November 28, 1930 in Munich, where he also attended school. Wilhelm Winterstein is a fully qualified lawyer and received his doctorate in 1958 from the law faculty of the University of Würzburg . After a year at Delbrück & Co . in Cologne and another one in America, he joined his family's bank in 1960.

Services

In 1960 he became an authorized signatory at his family's bank. In 1963 he rose to become a personally liable partner . In the following years he was successively responsible for the securities business, the international department and the human resources department; For a while he also managed the bank's Frankfurt branch. In October 1990 August von Finck Jr. sold the bank for around 600 million marks to the British Barclays Bank Plc . In 1991, at the request of the new majority shareholder, Winterstein became the spokesman for the management, which he held until his 65th birthday.

After the death of August von Finck (1980) Wilhelm Winterstein took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of the Lloyd companies (life and property). In 1989 Wilhelm Winterstein was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Assicurazioni Generali (Consiglio di Amministrazione) in Trieste. In connection with the acquisition of Aachen-Münchener by Assicurazioni Generali, all previous German groups (Deutscher Lloyd, German business of Interunfall, Directorate for Germany and First General Accident and Damage, Münchener Leben) were finally also Thuringia in the Generali Lloyd group AG and finally brought into the Aachen-Münchener Versicherungen . In 2000 Winterstein joined the supervisory board of AMB Aachener und Münchener Beteiligungs-Aktiengesellschaft. In addition, he held various supervisory board mandates, e. B. Viag , Didier , Isar-Amperwerke , Pfleiderer .

Patrons

Winterstein supports the Bavarian State Painting Collections , the Bavarian National Museum , the Glyptothek , the Lenbachhaus , the House of Art and the old and modern Pinakothek in Munich. In addition, he is also involved in the graphic collection of the Klassik Stiftung Weimar , to which he has made numerous donations. His commitment to art and culture can also be seen in board positions in the Pinakotheksverein, in the support association of the Bavarian National Museum or as a member of the board of directors of the Wittelsbach Compensation Fund . In addition to art, Winterstein also supports universities in Bavaria. In recognition he was u. a. Honorary Senator of the Technical University of Munich and Honorary Member and Board of Trustees of the University of Bavaria e. V.
