Wilhelm von Bodelschwingh

Wilhelm von Bodelschwingh (born September 27, 1869 in Dellwig , † March 17, 1921 in Bielefeld ) was a German pastor . He came from the noble family Bodelschwingh and was the son of the theologian Friedrich von Bodelschwingh the Elder and his wife Ida , née von Bodelschwingh. He had seven siblings, four of whom died before he was born. Wilhelm von Bodelschwingh studied at the universities of Basel , Halle and Greifswald in order to become pastor in Bethel at the local deaconess institution Sarepta in 1898 . He also took on the role of director of the institution, which he held until 1904. He was married to Luise von Bodelschwingh , née von Ledebur, and had four children with her. His job as director of the institution required u. a. many long rail journeys across Germany to look after the more than 1000 deaconesses of Sareptas, who mostly worked in hospitals. Wilhelm von Bodelschwingh died surprisingly on March 17, 1921 of severe pneumonia.
