Wilhelm von Proeck (born August 1, 1585 in Old Prussia , † 1654 in Zerbst ) was a landowner in Old Prussia and a princely Anhalt councilor and stable master at Plötzkau .

Life

He was the son of Andreas von Proeck (dead in 1614) and his first wife Gertrud von Eckenfeld. Proeck was a landlord on Lomminen, Ballendorf and Stunckheim in East Prussia.

After a rather sparse education by private tutors, Proeck went to the 3rd Austrian Turkish War under Emperor Rudolf II in 1604. He was then appointed court junker by Margrave Christian I of Brandenburg-Bayreuth . In 1607, three years later, Proeck moved to the court of Prince August von Anhalt-Plötzkau .

After two years of service at court, Proeck undertook an almost two-year Grand Tour through France from 1609 to 1610 . After his return he became a chamberlain. A short time later he was given the office of stable master. As such, he succeeded Hans Ernst from the Winckel .

Proeck married Margaretha von Schladen's first marriage in 1615 . After her death and the subsequent year of mourning, he married Susanne Barbara von Rumrod for the second time. With her he had, among other things, the sons Friedrich Wilhelm von Proeck (1632–1688) and Leberecht von Proeck (1635–1684).

In 1618 Prince Ludwig I of Anhalt-Köthen accepted him into the Fruit-Bringing Society . He gave him the company name of the fumigator and the motto in bad air . A lighted juniper bush with its beers was given to him as an emblem. Proeck's entry can be found in the Koethen Society Register under number 16.

In 1623, Proeck was appointed Rittmeister (captain) over the (overall) Anhalt feudal riding by the Anhalt State Defense Works, which was agreed between the princely brothers in 1620 for the whole of Anhalt .

After the death of his Prince Ludwig I von Anhalt-Köthen in 1653, Wilhelm von Proeck retired to Zerbst. There he died in 1654 at the age of 69 as the progenitor of a great family to come after him.
