Wilhelm von Wrangell

William Peter Georg Adolph Baron von Wrangell ( Russian Василий Фердинандович фон Врангель Vasily Ferdinando Petrovich Wrangel ; born November 13, jul. / 25. November  1831 greg. In New Archangel , † 24. April 1894 in Baden-Baden ) was an Estonian knighthood captain and District Administrator .

Life

Origin and family

Alexander was a member of the Baltic noble family von Wrangel . His parents were the Russian admiral and circumnavigator Ferdinand von Wrangel (1796-1870) and Elisabeth, nee Baroness von Rossillon (1810-1854).

He married Lucie Countess Stenbock from the house of Kolk (1840–1914) in Reval in 1861 . The marriage resulted in 11 children, including:

  • Egla von Wrangell (1872–1967), landscape painter
  • Ferdinand von Wrangell (1863–1911), Estonian district administrator
  • Georges von Wrangell (1866–1927), genealogist

Career

Wrangell attended a private school in Estonian Koick and from 1846 to 1850, the Cathedral School in Reval . From 1851 he studied natural sciences in St. Petersburg . In 1855 he undertook a geognostic trip to the Urals and Germany with Gregor von Helmersen . In the same year his family received the right to use the baron title . From 1857 he managed the Ruil estate in Estonia, which he also owned from 1870. He was parish judge since 1866 and hook judge since 1867 , and also in 1870 district deputy. From 1881 to 1884 he was knighthood captain, in 1883 he was promoted to state councilor and decided his career from 1884 to 1894 as district administrator.
