Wilhelmus Crone, 46th Abbot of Marienfeld

Wilhelmus Crone (born August 2, 1729 in Ankum ; † September 15, 1784 in Rengering Monastery ) was a priest and abbot of Marienfeld Monastery .

Life

Wilhelm Crone was born on August 2, 1729 in Ankum near Bersenbrück . In 1753 he entered the Cistercian monastery in Marienfeld and was dressed on November 8th. He made his profession on November 11, 1754 . He was ordained a priest on March 1, 1760 and was appointed chaplain in Harsewinkel on January 2, 1771 . On February 7, 1774 he was elected 46th Abbot of Marienfeld. The blessing he received by William of Alhaus , Auxiliary Bishop of Münster. Josef Mues , Abbot of Iburg , and Ludger Zurstraßen , Abbot of Liesborn Monastery assisted . The verses apply to him:

"Bernhard was the godfather of his birth,
Romualdus of his election,
Pius brought you, Wilhelm, the miter."

The Marienfeld monk chronicle says about Wilhelm Crone:

"Due to certain circumstances this decision was changed and he was appointed confessor in Rengering."

When the abbot visited the Rengering monastery to relax , he fell ill and after eleven weeks he died of dropsy on September 15, 1784 . His body was transferred to Marienfeld and buried in front of the sacristy.
