Wilhelm von Alhaus

Wilhelm von Alhaus (born August 10, 1716 in Ahlhausen , today in Ennepetal , † May 26, 1794 in Rheine ) was Lord of the Cross and auxiliary bishop in Münster and Osnabrück .

Life

Johann Wilhelm von Alhaus was born as the son of the Bergisch Chamberlain and Vice-Trosten of the same name . His mother was Adriana Christina Hertzig.

He entered the Order of the Holy Cross in Bentlage Monastery in 1734 and made his first profession in 1735 . On June 5, 1737 he received the first tonsure and minor orders . On September 21 of that year he was in the Nicolai Chapel on Domhof in Munster at the sub-deacon , on 20 September 1738 for a deacon ordained. He was ordained a priest on September 19, 1739 . Auxiliary Bishop Ferdinandus Oesterhoff carried out all ordinations .

In 1756 Alhaus was prior of the monastery. Clemens August I of Bavaria , among other things Prince-Bishop of Münster, asked Alhaus on February 28, 1758 to become auxiliary bishop of the diocese. Alhaus, the certificate of appointment of Pope Clement XIII , complied with this request . is dated October 2, 1758. His titular bishopric was Arad . The episcopal ordination took place on February 4, 1759 in the Paderborn Jesuit Church by the Paderborn auxiliary bishop Franz Josef von Gondola . He was assisted by the abbots from Abdinghof and Hardehausen .

After the death of the bishop of Münster and his requiem, Alhaus took up the post of capitular vicar of the diocese of Münster on March 20, 1761 . On the orders of the Allied command office in Münster - they were in the Seven Years' War - Alhaus had to leave the city on September 17, 1762 and retired to the Bentlage Monastery .

The new bishop of Münster, Maximilian Friedrich von Königsegg-Rothenfels , confirmed him as auxiliary bishop in Münster and on September 3, 1764 also appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Osnabrück . Alhaus had resigned his priory in Bentlage on April 16 of that year and chose Rheine as his residence because of its proximity to Münster and Osnabrück.

Alhaus died at the age of 77 and was buried two days later in the parish church of St. Dionys in Rheine.

Ordinations

The ordination register of the bishop has been preserved in fragments. He performed most of the consecration acts in the parish church of St. Dionysii in Rheine or in the Marienkapelle, also known as the Bönekerskirche. From March 18, 1763 to March 6, 1768 he ordained 71 tonsurists, 317 minorists, 313 sub-deacons, 314 deacons and 309 priests. From 1782 to 1794 he ordained 379 tonsurists , 392 minorists, 424 sub-deacons, 514 deacons and 522 priests. When his brother visited Elberfeld on June 26, 1778, he registered numerous believers in the local parish church.
