Kaspar Max Freiherr Droste zu Vischering , also Caspar Max Droste zu Vischering , (born July 9, 1770 in Vorhelm , † August 3, 1846 in Münster ) was Bishop of Münster from 1826 to 1846 .
Life
Origin and family
Kaspar Max came as the son of the married couple Clemens August Maria Droste zu Vischering (1742–1790) and Sophia Alexandrina Droste zu Füchten (1748–1817) of the noble family Droste zu Vischering , one of the oldest and most important Westphalian families. He grew up with his five siblings. His older brother Adolf Heidenreich was Erbdroste and builder of the Erbdrostenhof , Franz Otto a Catholic theologian and publicist, Clemens August Archbishop of Cologne and Maximilian Heidenreich district administrator in Brilon.
Career
Kaspar Maximilian belonged to Amalie von Gallitzin's circle since his youth . He was ordained a priest on July 13, 1793 by the Münster auxiliary bishop Wilhelm von Alhaus . Pope Pius VI appointed him titular bishop of Ierichus in 1795 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Münster . The prince-bishop of Munster, Maximilian Franz von Österreich , donated him the episcopal ordination on September 6th of the same year; Co - consecrators were Jean-Baptiste du Plessis d'Argentré , Bishop of Sées , and Louis-Charles du Plessis d'Argentré , Bishop of Limoges . In 1825 he was appointed by Pope Leo XII. appointed Bishop of Munster.
He consecrated his brother Clemens August, who later became Archbishop of Cologne , as a priest on May 14, 1798 in Münster and in 1827 as auxiliary bishop there.
In 1832 he opened a theological-philosophical academy in Münster, which was the forerunner of the university .
