Origin and family

As the youngest of eight children of the married couple Clemens August Maria Droste zu Vischering (Erbdroste, 1742–1790) and Sophia Alexandrina Droste zu Füchten (1748–1817), Maximilian came from the Westphalian noble family of Droste zu Vischering . His older brother Adolf Heidenreich was Erbdroste and builder of the Erbdrostenhof , Kaspar Maximilian was Bishop of Münster (1826-1846), Franz Otto was a Catholic theologian and publicist and Clemens August Archbishop of Cologne (1835-1845). Maximilian was lord of Padberg and Hoppecke in the Duchy of Westphalia . His possessions were mainly in the area of ​​the later Prussian district of Brilon. In 1802 he married Regina Dorothea Franziska von Padberg zu Padberg , daughter of Anton Joseph and Luise Christine Wendt (noble family) zu Papenhausen. The couple had six children.

Professional background

He studied in Göttingen law . Immediately after the takeover of the Duchy of Westphalia, Vischering-Padberg applied for his position as district administrator in the Brilon district. In 1817 there was a preliminary appointment and, after passing the necessary examination, the final appointment. He held this office until his death in 1845. His son Caspar Max succeeded him as the second district administrator of the Brilon district . In 1830/31 he took part in the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Westphalia . He had been elected as a deputy to the knighthood in the constituency of the Duchy of Westphalia.
