Will Sampson

Will Sampson (born September 27, 1933 in Okmulgee , Oklahoma , † June 3, 1987 in Houston , Texas ) was an American actor and painter .

Life

The 8-foot- tall Muskogee Indian Will Sampson became famous for his role as the chief in One Flew over the cuckoo's nest at Jack Nicholson's side . His second popular role in Germany was that of Harlon Twoleaf, the Indian friend of private detective Dan Tanna (played by Robert Urich ) in six episodes of the crime series Vegas .

Sampson was also a painter. Some of his works have been exhibited at the Library of Congress , the Amon Carter Museum, and the Philbrook Art Center .

Sampson died on June 3, 1987, from complications following heart surgery. He left behind his ex-wife and a son.
