Willem Adriaansz

Willem Adriaansz (born November 2, 1921 in Zeist ; † April 12, 2016 ) was a Dutch music researcher and pianist.

life and work

After studying at the Utrecht Conservatory, where he obtained his piano diploma in 1949, and at the Universities of Amsterdam and Utrecht (ethnomusicology and anthropology), and from 1959 studying musicology at the University of California in Los Angeles (MA 1961), he obtained his PhD in 1965. D. with the dissertation The Kumiuta and Danmono Traditions of Japanese Koto Music .

Adriaansz worked from 1961 to 1963 as an assistant professor at the University of Illinois in Urbana and from 1965 to 1968 at the University of Washington in Seattle. Since 1968 he worked as an associate professor at the San Fernando Valley State College in Northridge (California) .
