Willem Johannes Leyds (born May 1, 1859 in Magelang , Dutch East Indies , † May 14, 1940 in The Hague ) was a South African ambassador and foreign minister.
Life
Leyds studied law and practiced the profession of lawyer . From 1884 to 1889 he was Attorney General of the South African Republic and from 1889 to 1898 Foreign Minister. From 1898 to 1902 he was ambassador to Brussels .
Theodor Mommsen was one of his contacts in the German Empire .
