Willi Baer , actually Willi Bär , (born June 28, 1951 in Hamburg ) is a German journalist , film businessman , businessman and film producer in Hollywood .

Live and act

Bear began his professional life as a journalist. Until 1977 he worked as an editor for the politically left weekly newspaper Die Tat . In 1978 he moved to the film magazine Cinema as editor-in-chief . Bär stayed there until 1989. Since 1981 he has been working as a film producer.

At the beginning of the 1990s, Bär concentrated entirely on film production and joined the SD holding company of two Germans, the entrepreneur Rolf Deyhle and the lawyer Bodo Scriba . A little later, the three of them moved to Hollywood, where Bär, who now had himself written as “Baer”, took part in the production of a large number of US films over the next twelve years, most of which were co-financed with German money. Most of these films were not very successful; During this time the term “ Stupid German Money ” was circulating in Hollywood .

In 2003, Willi Baer largely ended his work as an executive producer and returned to Germany. In 2009 he founded the Laika publishing house specializing in political literature with Carmen Bitsch and Karl-Heinz Dellwo . Together with two partners, including once again Bodo Scriba, Baer also heads the Antares license sales company mbH, a Hamburg-based company that specializes in the evaluation of copyright usage rights and related property rights, in particular with TV and theater rights to copyrighted works. He is also the managing director of the production company Cine Media Film.
