Willi Brokmeier

Willi Brokmeier (born April 8, 1928 in Bochum ) is a German opera singer ( tenor voice ).

Life

Willi Brokmeier received his training as a lyric and play tenor at the Dortmund Conservatory. He started his first engagement in 1953 at the Stadttheater Mainz . In 1955 he moved to the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, of which he was a member until 1961. This was followed by a commitment to Munich at the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz under the artistic director Arno Assmann . When Assmann went to Cologne in 1964 , Brokmeier followed him. In 1967 he returned to Munich and became a member of the Bavarian State Opera .

Important roles in Brokmeier's career included David in the Mastersingers of Nuremberg by Richard Wagner and Narroboth in Richard Strauss ' opera Salome . In the world premiere of Bernd Alois Zimmermann's only completed opera The Soldiers , he sang the role of Count. Brokmeier worked under well-known conductors such as Carlos Kleiber , Karl Böhm and Otto Klemperer and made guest appearances at renowned opera houses in Germany and Europe. In 1980 he was awarded the title of Bavarian Chamber Singer for his services .

Occasionally Brokmeier was also seen in film adaptations of operettas, for example as Prince Sternschnuppe in Frau Luna by Paul Lincke or as Richard im Schwarzwaldmädel by Leon Jessel . In 1972 he made a guest appearance at Heinz Schenk in the Blauer Bock . Brokmeier also sang about records and can be heard in the Gypsy Baron by Johann Strauss (son) or the Cárdásfürstin by Emmerich Kálmán , among others .
