Wilhelm Kelch

Wilhelm Kelch called "Willi Kelch" (* 1905 ; † February 27, 1991 ) was a German politician ( SPD ). From 1959 to 1972 he was Lord Mayor of Osnabrück . Since 1972 he was an honorary citizen of the city of Osnabrück.

Life

From February 11, 1946, Willi Kelch was a member of the Osnabrück City Council for the SPD. In 1959 he was elected Lord Mayor of Osnabrück. On a local level, he primarily supported the city's foundations and the growth of the Osnabrück municipal utility . Beyond the city limits, he primarily promoted the Lower Saxony Association of Cities and the German Association of Cities . In autumn 1964, at the head of a delegation, he presented the Möser Medal to Erich Maria Remarque in Ronco sopra Ascona .

During his tenure, the town twinning was concluded with Angers (France), Haarlem (Netherlands) and Derby . His efforts to promote urban understanding resulted in the awarding of the European flag to the city of Osnabrück on May 5, 1968.

With his resignation from the office of Lord Mayor on November 29, 1972, he was given honorary citizenship of the city. Willi Kelch died on February 27, 1991 at the age of 85.
