William Clyburn Jr.

William Clyburn Jr. (born June 8, 1966 in Aiken ) is an American lawyer. He was a member of the American regulatory authority Surface Transportation Board .

Life

The son of Bill Clyburn , a Democratic MP in the South Carolina House of Representatives , and cousin of Congressman Jim Clyburn attended Aiken Senior High School from August 1980 to May 1984, from which he graduated with a diploma. He then studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology until June 1989 and achieved a bachelor's degree in technical ceramics . He then studied until May 1992 at the School of Law at the University of South Carolina and completed his Juris Doctor .

After graduation, he worked in Judge Rodney A. Peebles' office in South Carolina until July 1993. From August 1993 to March 1995 he was on the advisory board of US Senator Fritz Hollings in the Surface Transportation Subcommittee . He then worked as an economic advisor to Senator Chuck Robb .

On September 2, 1997, he was succeeded by Bill Clinton to JJ Simmons III. nominated for its seat on the Surface Transportation Board. However, the nomination was withdrawn after the Senate made it clear that it would only approve it together with a representative of the Republican Party on the board. An interim appointment was made on December 18, 1998 to prevent the board from being made up of only one person after January 1, 1999. After his final confirmation by the Senate on February 22, 1999, he remained on the Surface Transportation Board until December 31, 2002. He was not nominated again. He was succeeded by the Republican Roger Nober .

He then worked until 2005 as a personal advisor to Democratic Senator Zell Miller from Georgia . He then founded his own consulting and lobbying company, Clyburn Consulting LLC.
